CIRCULATORY system

The fluid that bathes body tissues. Blood circulates throughout the body supplying oxygen and nutrients to all the cells. The blood gathers the by-products of cellular metabolism and returns it to the heart. This is called a "closed system" because it keeps circulating from heart to arteries to capillaries to veins to heart. Round and round it goes. This cycle is only disrupted if it breaks as a result of a wound or hemorrhage. But the body knows enough to mend, closing up the system again.

Massage can speed up the blood flow by three to four times its rate, accelerating the nutritional exchange. This doesn't mean increasing blood pressure, but rather improving circulation.

Also, as muscles relax, blood circulates through them more efficiently.
